OOTD: Céline-a-Like Skater Shoes

25 Feb

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIf you hadn’t already noticed from my ‘Student Swap’ series, I’m a sucker for designer imitations (that’s imitations folks, not counterfeit) so when Emma Hill of EJ Style quite sensibly pointed out that these ‘Celine’ skater shoes were going on ASOS at an intensely attractive £18, I was immediately taken in by the materialistic and vain yet necessary desire for them. Here I am wearing them in Lincoln, where I attracted a lot of attention from the main road. It’s as though the people of Lincoln have never seen a photoshoot before! oh, wait…**

If you don’t know about the Sheffield Botanical Garden bear pit then this shoot might confuse you a bit. If you do know of it then the fact that I’m trying to kiss a statue of a bear might still confuse you. Essentially, I show too much affection to anything and everything that I like even a little bit. I think that’s why I love fashion so much: I started off liking it and now it has my heart, soul and student loan. This Chelsea Girl at River Island dress is case in point: I like it a lot more than a little bit. It makes me think of Alexa Chung on safari.

We also went into a little cafe called La Patisserie on Ecclesall road today to thaw out and obviously gorge ourselves on lots and lots of food. We had a gigantic jacket potato loaded with toppings each and then shared the chocolate ganache and raspberry tart pictured. Amazingly priced and completely delicious.

Photographed by Simon Rogerson.

Yesterday was my friends’ joint birthday party and Beth and I spent most of the day helping them prepare for it. For Beth, this meant blowing up so many balloons that we feared aneurism. For me, this meant joyfully ripping up my old magazines and creating this wall piece. I love doing stuff like this. I’m destroying to create; taking all of my internal inspiration and throwing it out onto the wall like an interior design mind map. I’m going to be doing it in my room shortly, and I’ll post pictures if people express interest!

What does one wear to party plan? The real question was: what does one choose to look like when one party plans, and as you can probably tell, I chose a marshmallow.

P.S.

I hope you know about the abomination that is Russia’s new bill. It states that those members of the LGBT community are banned from showing their love for each other in public. This is partly due to the current Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and Russia’s bizarre desire to keep ‘nontraditional sexual relations’ hidden, though anti-gay propaganda is still rife in the country anyway, with many violent crimes taking place against the LGBT community.

Lush are fronting a campaign in which a photographic petition consisting of people wearing the pink triangle (the sign of love) on their person is sent to the Russian Embassy on Valentine’s Day next week. Below is mine and Beth’s contribution. Think of it as a bit of a ‘fuck you’ to Vladimir Putin.

Please join the fight for the return of decent humanity here

OOTD: Valentino-A-Likes

3 Feb

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAToday I did something that I should probably do a lot more often and that is actually take notice of older clothes that I haven’t thought about in a long time. I got so excited about these jeans last year when I found them because they looked exactly like a pair of J Brand’s I’d been lusting over – they would have made a perfect Student Swap. The jacket and the scarf were gifts from a past relationship, and they’re such staples that I still love them to pieces! The only new things in this post are my shark tooth Black Tied necklace and those Chockers shoes that seriously do look just like Valentino. They’re buggers to walk in but I’ve never been one for practicality…

Has anyone else unearthed something amazing recently? Maybe take a look through your wardrobe!

VOGUE Fashion’s Night Out

21 Jan

On October 10 2013, my life reached this ridiculous sort of high that was buoyed up on employment satisfaction and champagne bubbles. I cam across these photographs again today and realised I hadn’t shown a lot of them on here.

I was actually surprised the day at VIVA HQ way back in March when I heard that VOGUE magazine was going to host their annual fashion extravaganza in Manchester. Don’t get me wrong, I’m endlessly proud to be Mancunian and see it is a perfect setting to host it, but I had no idea that the conservatively London-centric magazine would see my city the same way. By marking Manchester on their treasure map with a great glistening cross, VOGUE turned Deansgate – Exchange Square into a fairytale, Valentino kitten heeled stomping ground. These pictures were taken by Georgie Glass of The Slimmer Photographer, and Matthew Corner, and they epitomise my incredible evening.

vintage2I’m on a roll recently. Beautiful, one-off pieces keep falling into my lap. Though this means that my current account is suffering, it means that I’m definitely not. This stunning crepe and lace lingerie playsuit is from Tasty Vintage in Lincoln. It’s everything I’ve ever sought in lingerie as outerwear. See what I have to say about my favourite trend of the season here.
