Black Dog Bowl: Manchester

9 Apr

I’m back in Manchester; back in internships and I feel like me again. I honestly feel sorry for scholars who live their lives with their noses buried in musty books. Because journalism/PR is the career.

Today, after running round the city with I Love Manchester’s Chris, securing deals and meeting web designers, we headed to the bowling alley Dog Bowl for a review with Tom. While I tucked in to my sharing of nachos and a board of fajitas, the guys opted for some sticky chicken wings: Tom with the hottest Wild Buffalo Sauce and Chris with the ‘sweet’ Bourbon BBQ. Both ended up with sauce in their beards, so I could tell that they were equally impressed. Dessert came in the form of a game of bowling – which I lost dismally. But I still got a strike!

Tomorrow, I’m off to the press opening of new night club LIV.

The Burger Connoisseur : Bungalows & Bears, Sheffield

22 Mar

P3152183

Welcome to the first ever instalment of my brand spanking new blog series: The Burger Connoisseur.

Hands up: I am that person who always orders the same thing in restaurants. Yes, I do try new things, but no, I just don’t want a blue cheese stuffed crab linguini pie. I want juicy meat, a strong slice of cheese, and oodles of salad in a toasted bun alongside half a bottle of ketchup and a handful of fries. Not chic, but true.

This means of course, that I’ve had a great many burgers in my time. So many, that my mum is actually getting exasperated. So, to begin what will one day become the tasting of a burger in many restaurants around the world, I give you the burger at Bungalows & Bears.

*disclaimer: I know about burgers as much as the next person. i.e. OMG BURGER.

Where:

The Old Fire Station on Division Street (already chic.)

The Meat:

noticeably seasoned, but very very juicy. The extra flavours lend a real gourmet feel to an otherwise classic burger.

The Cheese:

It may look like 4am BigMac cheese that is mingled with sambuca and lipstick, but it’s not. It’s niiiiice niiiice cheese.

The Extras:

The greatest onion rings ever given to man: leftover reminders of the time our ancestors spent in Eden. And fries with some skin still on and with lots if salt. mmmmm.

My Burger Rating ( /5 ):
