I’m back in Manchester; back in internships and I feel like me again. I honestly feel sorry for scholars who live their lives with their noses buried in musty books. Because journalism/PR is the career.

Today, after running round the city with I Love Manchester’s Chris, securing deals and meeting web designers, we headed to the bowling alley Dog Bowl for a review with Tom. While I tucked in to my sharing of nachos and a board of fajitas, the guys opted for some sticky chicken wings: Tom with the hottest Wild Buffalo Sauce and Chris with the ‘sweet’ Bourbon BBQ. Both ended up with sauce in their beards, so I could tell that they were equally impressed. Dessert came in the form of a game of bowling – which I lost dismally. But I still got a strike!

Tomorrow, I’m off to the press opening of new night club LIV.

Revolución de Cuba

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASince visiting a certain gourmet burger restaurant in London recently (MeatLiquor) and seeing their frank Twitter message, I am inspired to review restaurants from the following standard: “come hungry; leave drunk.” Now I know that you know that I know where this is going and last week Simon and I did indeed come to Revolución de Cuba off West Street hungry, and pitifully for me, I did leave drunk.

The mojito and burrito deal that runs all the time at Revolucion de Cuba is a pretty thrifty one, considering that in Manchester you’d be lucky to get a napkin with your cocktail for a tenner. For this though, you get:

a) a ginormous burrito with meat of choice (pulled pork, obv).

b) a little pot of nachos with salsa.

c) any mojito on the menu apart from the Mojito Royale.

d) drunk.

In regard of d), I’m not making any promises, but if you’re a petite female who has a boyfriend that doesn’t like his own mojito then you’re sorted.

The interior is seriously awesome, if a little trippy seeing as just a step through the door transports you from St George’s moribund entrance to the inside of an old tram shed that has been converted into a cabana with frightening speed.

The burrito itself was different from others I’ve had in the past because the wrap was toasted rather than a classically soft tortilla. It was, of course, delicious and though I’m no good at describing what food tastes like, I will say that it’s up there with a half cous cous, half pasta New Leaf salad for how full it gets you. Especially if you have churros afterwards. Which we did. I confess to needing a little nap afterwards and if that doesn’t make you want to go with your last tenner then I give up.
