OOTD : Burberry Cowgirl

7 Mar

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

She’s a silver lining, lone ranger riding through an open space.

This is one of my favourite ever outfits. It’s like watching The Wolf of Wall Street, eating pizza followed by a cheesecake from the Church Inn in Mobberley and then going and getting cocktails in London with the Arctic Monkeys. That’s how this outfit makes me feel. You can keep your ketamine, because I’m a fashion junkie.

The shirt is an ideal dupe of the IT piece of Burberry FW13 and it was so cheap from the amazing American site: Persun Mall. The shoes? Not as expensive as they look because they were just FIFTEEN pounds from H&M. And that hat. Oh, the hat. If I could write sonnets then all fourteen lines would be dedicated to it. It’s ideal and it’s a tenner. Get it here.

Have a great weekend lovers, and for the love of God see Wolf of Wall Street if you still haven’t.

OOTD: I Scream For Ice Cream

23 Feb

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI like fashion because on days like today it gives me an excuse to dress up like a knickerbocker glory. I am loving the sugary trend of SS14 and am therefore enjoying many shades of candyfloss, bubblegum and parma violet. All together? YES. Burberry hath decreed it. X

If you don’t know about the Sheffield Botanical Garden bear pit then this shoot might confuse you a bit. If you do know of it then the fact that I’m trying to kiss a statue of a bear might still confuse you. Essentially, I show too much affection to anything and everything that I like even a little bit. I think that’s why I love fashion so much: I started off liking it and now it has my heart, soul and student loan. This Chelsea Girl at River Island dress is case in point: I like it a lot more than a little bit. It makes me think of Alexa Chung on safari.

We also went into a little cafe called La Patisserie on Ecclesall road today to thaw out and obviously gorge ourselves on lots and lots of food. We had a gigantic jacket potato loaded with toppings each and then shared the chocolate ganache and raspberry tart pictured. Amazingly priced and completely delicious.

Student Swap : Louboutin

6 Feb

About fifty percent of my shoes collection have studs on them. My two (sometimes) neat row of shoes are, in the eyes of sartorial mortals, an armoury of punk weapons. My beige All Saints boots with their solid wooden soles and heavy studded ankle cuffs have been subject to much discussion regarding self-defence. Could they disarm a lecherous club-goer and his slimy tenticles in Corp? Most likely, though I refuse to wear my babies to the place that has earned ‘Corp Shoes’ as a fashion epithet. Could they in fact, cause GBH if they were aimed in the correct trajectory with great force? Even this has been sensibly discussed and considered.

Any shoe that incites debate regarding their potential as ammunition is a shoe to revere, even if your admiration is just in order to mollify the rage of the wearer. The pigalle stud ballerina pumps of Christian Louboutin’s red soled designs are angsty cases-in-point. They’re really loud expression of your fashion enslavement, and they dare anyone to question your audacity to spend upwards of £500 on a pair of shoes. Again, we despair at our studentship and forgo the Loubs for more palatable fashion artillery. These high street-a-likes are from Zara and they’re a tenth of the price of the Louboutin 0ffering, but you could definitely still blind someone with their studded beauty. Whether you blind them with blistering envy, or with the pointy end of the toe as it is flung across the dancefloor is entirely up to you. *

* The dirty, pretty little thing take no responsibility for any blinding that may occur at the hands of angry studded flat wearers.

OOTD: Valentino-A-Likes

3 Feb

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAToday I did something that I should probably do a lot more often and that is actually take notice of older clothes that I haven’t thought about in a long time. I got so excited about these jeans last year when I found them because they looked exactly like a pair of J Brand’s I’d been lusting over – they would have made a perfect Student Swap. The jacket and the scarf were gifts from a past relationship, and they’re such staples that I still love them to pieces! The only new things in this post are my shark tooth Black Tied necklace and those Chockers shoes that seriously do look just like Valentino. They’re buggers to walk in but I’ve never been one for practicality…

Has anyone else unearthed something amazing recently? Maybe take a look through your wardrobe!

OOTD: Exam

31 Jan

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThere’s definitely something about exams that make people chill their outfits right the hell out. It’s like some sort of disease that even infects those people who haven’t sat contemplating their own intelligence in the exam hall in ten years. There was a woman in the train station yesterday who was actually wearing a onesie as if it were just that normal. I think she thought that because it was Superdry, it was okay. That is of course like saying that it’s acceptable to drown puppies if you’re wearing Maison Martin Margiela while you’re doing it. That she was committing this crime in the middle of our university’s exam period is, I feel, not a coincidence. (As Sherlock Holmes would say, the universe is rarely so lazy.)

Thankfully, no one was wearing a onesie in the exam hall yesterday, though general grunge slouchiness was ubiquitous.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I think that people take to exam dressing as they do to airport dressing. That is, those who dress well usually carry on annoying everyone in their amazing leathers and boots, and those who don’t, dress for comfort. Though I was trying to enter into the former category today, I fear that I actually entered the latter with my exquisitely comfortable trousers and layers of sweater. Out of the people I surveyed before we began to write about George Herbert’s Bible-bashing until our hands cramped, one hundred percent of them were wearing their boyfriends’ sweaters. Now even though I only surveyed two people (one of them being me), I think you get my point.

I feel that too many years sat uncomfortably shifting around on plastic chairs because of burning tights itch and being unable to cry properly over your exam due to the top button slave collar has rendered us all comfort whores in the exam hall.

OOTD: Pinafore

29 Jan

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHello! My outfit of the day features this pinafore that is from Primark but that I got via eBay. I love this goddamn site – if you know what you’re searching for then it’s golden. Be really specific by including the colour, texture, store and item: “applique flower Asos ballerina boxing gloves”, for example. Wouldn’t that be wonderful at the Olympics!?

I’m leaving Lincoln today where my boyfriend lives, to come back to Sheffield and an exam in the morning. It’s closed book Renaissance and I’m sick sick sick of humanists and their poncy circumlocution and isocolon. Wish me luck? x
